The Portuguese region of Algarve is the southernmost region in the entire country. The region boasts a population of 450,484 inhabitants (2011) and is 5,412 square kilometers in size. The region is known for its production of fruit, carob beans, almonds, and figs. It is also known for its fresh fish and seafood.

Lagos is extremely popular in Algarve as it is one of the most developed areas and houses a number of luxury resorts and spas. Some of the great things to see is the Marino beach in Vilamoura, the city of Tavira and the city of Silves, Lagos historic center, and the Praia da Luz.

The region of Algarve is serviced by the Faro Airport (FAO), located just 2.6 kilometers from the center of Algarve. British Airways, Lufthansa, Ryanair, Air Berlin, EasyJet, Luxair, and Scandinavian Airlines offer service to this Airport.
